My wife and I are leaving next week for 10 days of Via Ferrata climbing in the Dolomiti. We have done a number of previous hike/climbs there, including the Ivan Doboni and others around Tre Cimini.
Do you have any recommendations (We do not do “F” class climbs that require technical climbing skills)???
At the time you asked your question I was on holiday myself…….
great pics… I have also some vie ferrate on my website documentated!
Hi
Great web it is very nice.
My english is not very good but i will try to explain as wellas i can.
I’m from Broto (spain, the Village of Sorrosal’s ferrata near Ordesa and Monte Perdido) and i’m going to Dolomitas in two weeks with a friend.
I tell you: we have done some ferratas including most of catalonian and of Andorra too. We do not know about Dolomitas. Which of them do you recommend me? (we will be there 7 days to walk and climb them).
Also our walk level is hight but i want to know if we will have to use rope to secure us in the descent or while going to ferrata. I don’t care during the ferrata but my question is if it will be more tecnical (with rope, rapel…) to go to the begining of the ferratas or in the retorn.
Mybe it can be a stupid cuestion but i do not imagine alpine ferrata and the level they have.
Thank you very much
david
David,
There are a very few via ferratas in the Dolomites where you have to use a rope for getting to the VF itself; so don’t worry……
Just beware of bad weather conditions in the Dolomites.
Recommended via ferratas: the Sella Massif and around Cortina D’Ampezzo.
A nice one is the VF Ivano Dibona (Cortina); not hard but very beautiful, involving a traverse of the main Monte Cristallo ridge.
Succes

Hi Ruud,
In a couple of weeks, I’m going down to the Dolomites to do some via ferrata climbing with 6 friends. Some of us are able climbers/mountaineers, so we weren’t planning on hiring a guide, but we would really appreciate some advice on which areas and which routes you would recommend.
We are flying in to Milano on Wednesday afternoon 15/9 and driving down to Piemonte on Friday afternoon 17/9. In other words, we have one full day plus half a day available for via ferrata (we have cars). We are relatively fit and comfortable with heights and exposed areas.
What area and which routes would you recommend if we want to maximize the experience? The southern parts of the Dolomites to minimize time in car, or further north to maximize the experience (e.g. VF Ivano Dibona, Cortina)?
Best regards,
Kim
Hi Kim,
Maybe it is a good idea to let you’re choice depends on the weather forecast. When the outlook for the Dolomites is good you can can go for the Cortina/Sella region (alpine).
With bad weather you can often go to Lake Garda (Arco/Riva); there the sun will be shining….
