The via ferrata itself takes 1:30
But ……
You have to reach and cross a little glacier first.
After the via ferrata: descent on the Marmolada glacier back to the chair lift.
The whole route takes you five ours.
The via ferrata is not very technical but the length and the alpine ambiance of the mountain makes it quite a serious outing. Don’t go up there with doubtfull weather conditions!!
On the glacier crampons are of course necessary.
Check the weather forecast and start early in the day.

1. Are there any crevasses in the small glacier (Vernel-glacier) before the via ferrata?
On your picture it looks rather harmless.
2. Is it necessary to line up (anseilen) on the large glacier (Marmolada glacier). Because I walk alone, I cannot line up, so I have to return along the same route as I go to the top (the via ferrata).

Hey Jan,
1. De gletsjer in de aanloop naar de via ferrata was aper en ik heb geen enkele spleet gezien.
2. In principe is het wel verstandig om aangelijnd over de grote gletsjer te gaan. Ik was ook alleen en dus niet aangelijnd. Dit was echter geen vrolijk avontuur; de route ging namelijk ook over een sneeuwbrug. Verder kwam de route bij niet zo gevaarlijk over, maar die paar stappen over de sneeuwbrug blijven me eeuwig bij.
Terug via de via ferrata is natuurlijk wel een optie. Vergeet niet dat je dan alles naar beneden moet klimmen. Misschien is het handig als je je dat op de heenweg realiseert. Overigens heb ik iemand zo de route zien doen.
Succes met deze hoogste, oudste en langste via ferrata van Italie….en leuk om te horen als je ‘m geklommen hebt..
